Situated at a height of 12,100 ft, Chandrashila trek is the most suitable option for beginners and is also famous for Tungnath temple which is one of the highest temples in the world. Chopta Tungnath trek is one of the few treks in the Himalayas that offers the greatest mountain views. You’ll be able to gaze at Gauri Parbat, Hathi Parbat, Dunagiri, Mt. Nanda Devi, Mt.Nanda Ghunti, and Mt. Trishul from the top.

Apart from the views, Chandrashila Chopta trek gives you many other reasons to love this trek. The trail passing through oak and rhododendron trees is nothing short of spectacular. Deoriatal Lake is surrounded by forests with Mt Chaukhamba looming over it making it a breathtaking sight. Day 0: Transfer to Chopta

Day 1: Rishikesh to Chopta

  • Distance- 162 km, Time- 5 to 6 hours drive

Day 2: Chopta to Tungnath and Chandrashila Back to Chopta

Detailed Itinerary

Day 0: Transfer to Chopta

  • Start your Chandrashila-Tungnath trek from Delhi in the late evening.

Day 1: Arrive in Chopta

  • Start in a shared vehicle from Rishikesh at 4 AM.
  • Take pictures of the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers at Devprayag.
  • Reach Chopta by evening.
  • Have dinner and retire for the night in camps.

Day 2: Chopta to Tungnath and Chandrashila| Back to Chopta

  • Have breakfast and start your 6 km long trek to Tungnath.
  • Reach Tungnath and witness one of the highest Shiva temples in the world.
  • Trek a little more to reach Chandrashila peak and get 360 degree views of multiple peaks of Himalayas. 
  • Return to the campsite and relax.
  • Have dinner and retire for the night.

Day 3: Chopta to Sari Village and Deoria Tal Lake | Departure

  • Have breakfast and start your 2-hours journey in a car to Sari village.
  • Trek for 2 km to reach Deoriatal Lake, with a view of Chaukhamba peak.
  • Get down and start your journey back to Rishikesh.

Day 4: Delhi arrival

  • Reach Delhi early morning as your journey ends here with tons of memories.

How to reach?

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun serves as the nearest airport to Rishikesh. Visitors can take a direct flight to Dehradun from Mumbai or Delhi or connecting flights from anywhere in India. Local vehicles can be availed from outside the airport to reach Rishikesh by road from Dehradun.

By Train: Rishikesh Junction Railway Station is well-connected to all the surrounding major cities. Visitors can easily find frequent trains to Rishikesh from Delhi and Dehradun.

By Road: Rishikesh is well connected by roads to all major cities and towns, so visitors as per their choice and comfort can take the bus to reach Rishikesh smoothly. Rishikesh is connected to Chandigarh, Delhi, Dehradun, and Nainital through a good network of roads.

  • Any additional cost incurred due to changes in Government Guidelines related to travel/trek/COVID-19 will be borne by the trekkers.
  • Loading and unloading of personnel luggage.
  • Anything which is not mentioned in inclusions.
  • Any king of emergency evacuation charges.


  • Rent gear: You can reduce your hassle of buying gear like trek pants, jackets, shoes and rent them for the trek at additional cost. (Pricing will be updated soon)
  • Guests must be vaccinated with both doses of Covid vaccine.
  • The organization reserves the rights to modify the trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
  • In unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, the trek may get canceled or altered. In such cases, the operator will try to provide with an alternate option. However, a cash refund will not be applicable in this situation.

Cancellation Policy

  • If cancellation are made 30 days before the date of travel then 25.0% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees

  • If cancellation are made 15 days to 30 days before the date of travel then 50.0% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees

  • If cancellation are made 0 days to 15 days before the date of travel then 100.0% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees

  • The applicable refund amount will be processed within 10 business days.

Our treks are planned with a male: female ratio. As an organizer, we make sure that their tents are shared only with other female trekkers.
Good physical and mental fitness is expected to complete the Trek. Chandrashila Trek is an ideal option for beginners to get familiarized with similar high altitude treks.
We make sure that wholesome and nutritious meals are provided during the Chandrashila Chopta trek. We serve only vegetarian food as it is easy to digest and preferable in high altitudes.
Chandrashila Trek is easy to moderate when we compare it to another high altitude trek. We advise our trekkers to maintain a basic fitness level before opting for this experience.
On your Chopta to Tungnath trek, accommodation will be provided in camps or guest houses on a sharing basis.
Snow is available on this trek during the months of January to March. You may also witness snowfall in the month of January.
Limited Airtel and Vodafone networks are available in Sari village. We advise our trekkers to be prepared for the network problem during the trek.

The best suited shoes for the Dayara Bugyal trek route are the ones that are breathable and light in weight. Also, ankle support is a very important thing to take care of while buying the perfect pair of shoes. You can go for brands like- Decathlon, Wildcraft, Quechua, etc. In the winters, you’ll require gators or gumboots which you can rent from the base village.
We advise our trekkers to bring proper woolen clothes and windcheaters during the months of Dec, Jan, and Feb. In other months, a few jackets along with a raincoat are sufficient.
