Delhi and Gurugram are one working region and two different cities. Delhi has the monuments, the old city and the capital’s institutions. Gurugram, 30 km to the south, has the office corridors where hundreds of Fortune 500 companies keep their Indian offices. For a trip whose reason is in the National Capital Region rather than in old Delhi, the question is where to sleep. The answer is often to stay in Gurugram and visit Delhi on the days the trip needs it.

goSTOPS PLUS Gurugram, Golf Course Extension is in Sector 57, about 2 km from Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro, which connects into the Delhi Metro network. IGI airport is about 20 km from the property. Dorm beds start around Rs 650 a night plus taxes, with 28 beds in private rooms and a front desk staffed 24 hours. Whether it is the right base depends on where in NCR the trip goes. The commute for that destination is the thing to check before booking.

Key takeaways

  • goSTOPS PLUS Gurugram, Golf Course Extension is about 2 km from Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro, 20 km from IGI airport and 30 km from Delhi.
  • Gurugram works as a base when the reason for the trip is in Delhi NCR, in the Gurugram office corridors, south Delhi or near the airport. A trip that is only old Delhi is the case for a Delhi base.
  • The Rapid Metro links into the Delhi Metro, so the commute into Delhi is by train rather than by road for most of the way.
  • Check the commute for your specific destination before booking, since the region is large and old Delhi is at the far end of it.

When does it make sense to stay in Gurugram and visit Delhi?

When most of the trip is south of Delhi. The office corridors of Gurugram, Cyber City and Udyog Vihar on the Delhi side, and the airport are all a metro or cab ride from Sector 57. South Delhi’s institutions and neighbourhoods are nearer than old Delhi is. A trip that mixes a Gurugram meeting with a day in Delhi, or a Delhi meeting with a Gurugram one, fits a base in between.

When the trip is old Delhi, the walled city, the Red Fort and the markets around Chandni Chowk, Gurugram is the far end of a long commute. A base in Delhi itself serves that trip better. The property is in Delhi NCR but not in Delhi, and the difference is 30 km of road or a metro ride with a change.

Good to know: Gurugram works as a base when the reason for the trip is in NCR rather than in old Delhi. The commute for your specific destination is worth checking before you book, since the region is large.

How does the commute into Delhi work from Sector 57?

By metro, for most of the way. Sector 55-56 station on the Rapid Metro is about 2 km from the property, a short auto or walk. The Rapid Metro runs through Gurugram’s Golf Course Road corridor and connects into the Delhi Metro network, which carries on into Delhi. From there the Delhi Metro covers the city, with changes between lines for the far side of it.

By road, NH-48 is the highway between the two cities, and cabs run it at every hour. The 30 km to Delhi is a figure for the city’s edge rather than its centre. The road time depends on where in Delhi you are going and when. For the airport, IGI is about 20 km from the property, to both terminals.

Tip: for a day in Delhi, take the metro in the morning and the metro back. For a late evening in Delhi, a cab back down NH-48 is the usual answer, and the 24/7 front desk at the property means the hour you return does not matter.

What is the location like as a base?

Sector 57 is on the Golf Course Extension corridor, the stretch of towers and offices that runs south from Golf Course Road toward the Sohna road. It is a residential and office quarter, and the property is set up for business travel and short stays. The cafes and restaurants of Galleria Market in DLF Phase 4 are the nearest cluster, on the Golf Course Road side. Cyber Hub’s restaurants and breweries are across the city on the Delhi side, a metro ride away.

The Aravalli side of Gurugram is the property’s side. Mangar Bani, a protected community grove off the Gurugram to Faridabad road, and Damdama Lake near Sohna are both reached from here without crossing the city. The Aravalli Biodiversity Park is at the Delhi border on the way in. For a trip that wants Delhi one day and the hills the next, the base is in the right place.

Why goSTOPS PLUS Gurugram, Golf Course Extension: a base in Delhi NCR about 2 km from the Rapid Metro into the Delhi Metro, 20 km from IGI airport and 30 km from Delhi, with dorm beds from around Rs 650 a night plus taxes, private rooms for two, a 24/7 front desk and a common room of around 125 seats.

What does the property offer between the commutes?

A dorm bed is a bunk in a 4-bed AC room, some with a balcony, with a privacy curtain, a plug point and an individual fan. Lockers are in the room and the door uses digital locking. The 28 beds in private rooms are in 236 sq ft rooms for two with a balcony and an ensuite bathroom. WiFi covers the property and power backup keeps it running through a cut.

The common room has around 125 seats across high tables, regular tables, round tables, sofas and stepped seating. It is there for the evening after a day in Delhi or the morning before one.

There is no minimum or maximum stay, so a base for a week of NCR meetings books the same way as a single night. A 14-day package at around Rs 6,300 plus taxes and a 28-day package at around Rs 11,900 plus taxes cover the longer stretch.

Who should stay in Gurugram and visit Delhi?

Anyone whose trip is in Delhi NCR rather than in old Delhi should consider it. That includes a consultant with meetings in Gurugram and one in south Delhi. It includes a traveller flying into IGI who wants the airport and the Gurugram offices within reach and Delhi as a day out. It includes a visitor to the region with a week to spend, who can take the metro into Delhi on some days and the Aravallis on others. For a trip that is only old Delhi, stay in Delhi.

A base between the two cities

To stay in Gurugram and visit Delhi is to put the base in the south of the region. The commute goes by metro on the days the trip heads north. goSTOPS PLUS Gurugram, Golf Course Extension is that base, about 2 km from the Rapid Metro, 20 km from the airport and 30 km from Delhi. Dorm beds start around Rs 650 a night plus taxes, and the 24/7 front desk is there for whatever hour the commute ends. Check the commute for your destination first, and old Delhi is the one case where the answer is to stay in Delhi instead.

Rooms, dorms and dates are at goSTOPS PLUS Gurugram, Golf Course Extension. More about the city is at goSTOPS Gurugram.
