Fondly known as the Little Tibet of India, Leh is a popular tourist destination for backpackers looking to explore and relax in the natural environment and mighty mountains. If witnessing thebreathtakingly beautiful landscape of remote mountain ranges, peaceful monasteries, cold desert, turquoise lakes and crisp and cold air is all you want, then Leh is the place for you.
Ways to Reach: Modes of Transportation
You can reach Leh by plane, train or by simply taking a road trip and driving up there. Leh has an airport but it is not directly connected to any railway station, however you can reach there by traveling to neighboring railway stations.
By Air
Leh’s Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is just 5-6 km away from goSTOPS Leh. It is well connected to major Indian cities. You may take a prepaid taxi or a bus for the rest of the way.
By
Train
The nearest railway station to Leh is in Kalka but we wouldn’t recommend traveling via train because it involves changing to bus/other modes of transport more than once.
By Taxi
Direct taxi/cab from Delhi/Chandigarh/Manali costs a lot so you may arrive at Jammu/Srinagar/Manali and then take a shared cab which costs around INR 3000.
From Leh Airport, you may take a cab which costs INR 500-800
By Bus
Regular buses ply to and fro Leh from cities including Delhi, Manali and Srinagar. If you can’t get a direct bus to Leh, then go to Manali or Srinagar first and take a bus/cab from there.
The buses drop you off at a bus stand near Leh Gate- 2 km from the hostel- you may take a cab (INR 200) to reach the hostel from here.
Bus from Leh airport: You may take a bus from outside the airport, which drops you at the main market. Get off at the Leh Gate (2 km from the hostel), and take a cab (INR 200). You may also walk for the rest of the way. The frequency of buses is low.
If you are coming by your own vehicle, you can use this location for navigation. We have parking for 2-wheelers within our property.
